2016 Spring green Da Pang from Hsin Chu
Pure spring freshness
Cultivar: Qingxin Da Pang (青心大冇)
Harvested by hand in early April 2016
Origin: Emei, Hsinchu county, Taiwan
Process: green tea (tumbling oven dried)
The Qingxin Da Pang is one of Taiwan's most traditional cultivar. It's the cultivar that is most widely used in the Hsin Chu area to produce Oriental Beauty Oolong (with high oxidation level). What's interesting here is that we get the opportunity to taste it without any oxidation, processed as a green tea.
The dry leaves have a fresh green color with white tips for the bud. The raw, grassy green tea scents are rather fine and delicate. The brew even has some light honey notes.
The taste is excellent: very smooth, fresh, mellow and pure. It's very comfortable and fresh.
Advice: The trick to brew this green tea well is to use fewer leaves than with an Oolong.
Conclusion: The brew is of impeccable clarity. The scents are on a high note, very light and flowery. But the most striking is the purity and delicacy of the taste! There's a great vibrancy and purity that comes from this plantation that is pesticide free because it has to be in order to produce Oriental Beauty!
