2016 Spring Top Qingxin Oolong Shan Lin Xi
So young, so fresh!
Cultivar: Qingxin Oolong
Harvested by hand on May 1st, 2016
Origin: Shan Lin Xi (1300 m)
Process: Lightly oxidized, rolled Oolong
Dry leaves: Green/blue color.
Dry scents: Light flowers, gooseberries and sweet.
Brew: light yellow color. Very clear and shiny.
Brewed leaves scent: Green freshness of a mountain river in spring. Very light, delicate, fragrant flowers.
Taste: Incredibly smooth and sweet. Very gentle. This balance reminds me also of Lishan Oolong. The finish is amazingly thick and rich for a tea that appears so light at first. The mouth is clean and retains a long and elegant aftertaste.
Spent leaves: Lots of buds among the big high mountain leaves. This explains the finesse of this Oolong. They are very healthy, having grown up in a new plantation.
Conclusion: even brewed in competition style, this ShanLinXi Oolong shows no defect (no bitterness or astringency). The scents are very light and sometimes unusual for a high mountain Oolong. The taste lingers with grace. A very interesting specimen!
