The Fushou Shan plantation was established during Chiang Ching-Kuo's presidency (Chiang Kai-Shek's son). It's managed by retired generals and has very close ties to the state and the military (during the dictatorship, this was the same thing!). Thanks to this connection, Oolong from Fushou Shan is one of the favorite tea gift that state and army officials can receive. Like a gift from the emperor, such official gifts carry a symbolic value about a position's importance and power.

Does Taiwan's political elite drink good tea? Let's find out:

1. View

The dry leaves have a vivid, fresh green color. The brew is clear and shiny with a yellow color. The open leaves are rather small and have a yellow appearance, sign of a higher than usual oxidation level.

2. Scents

The brew is particularly fragrant, thanks to the strong oxidation (for a high mountain Oolong). There are notes of honey mellon and flowers.

3. Taste
Fresh and sweet, then very lively in a tempered, harmonious way. It has a long, comfortable aftertaste. It combines finesse and energy, which is what top quality Oolongs are all about.

Conclusion: The Fushou Shan high mountain Oolong taste is more than impressive. It embodies Taiwan High mountain Oolong excellence. It's not an easy tea to get, but it feels great to drink like a president at least once in your life!
