2019 Summer Oriental Beauty from Hsin Chu
Between modern and tradition
Cultivar: Qingxin Dapang
Harvested by hand: Mid June 2019
Origin: Hsin Chu, Taiwan
Process: Jassid bitten buds, medium oxidation, striped and short roast.
The leaves are relatively small and contain a good proportion of white buds. The orange brew has a very good clarity and transparency. The leaves open up completely and their color indicates a medium oxidation level.
The dry leaves smell a little bit roasted, but mostly ripe fruit and honey! The brew has the typical honey scents mixed with ripe fruit smells.
The brew tastes a little astringent. Due to its shorter roast, it's not as mellow and deep as a 'tradition' OB, but this means more fresh notes.
This 2019 batch is an interesting compromise. Like a modern OB, it has high notes of honey, but thanks to some roasting, its taste has the potential to further mellow. I recommend tasting it in the fall of 2019 (or later).
