2020 Fall Oriental Beauty from Hsin Chu
The lighter taste of OB
Cultivar: Qingxin Dapang
Harvested by hand: August 2020
Origin: Hsin Chu, Taiwan
Process: Jassid bitten buds, medium to high oxidation, striped and lightly roasted.
The leaves are a mix of medium, large leaves and buds. The orange brew has a very good clarity and transparency. The open leaves are rather green, which shows a lower oxidation level as usual. The weather was so dry that the leaves dried before they had time to oxidize at their normal rate.
The dry leaves smell have a rather light fruity smell! The brew has the typical light honey scents of a more modern Oriental Beauty. It's the kind of scent that all OB fans love!
The brew tastes mellow, clean and light. Even pushed to the limits, the taste remains smooth. My brewing advice is lots of leaves and rather short brews!
Conclusion: This fall version of Oriental Beauty is lighter in taste, but more fragrant than the traditional summer. However, it will please those who enjoy their Oolongs with less roast.
