Cultivar: Da Yeh Oolong
Harvested by hand: June 5th, 2021
Origin: Hualien, Taiwan East Coast
Process: Jassid bitten, fully oxidized and lightly roasted.
1. View
The leaves are small and thin. They contain lots of gold/orange tips, which shows that they were harvested at an early stage. The spent leaves are rather small. The brew is red/orange with a very good concentration, clarity and transparency.
2. Scents
The dry leaves have faint scents of fruit and roasted bread due to their recent light roast. The brew has powerful honey and sweet fruit scents that come close to perfume. This top red Da Yeh is lighter and more refined than last year's.
3. Taste
The taste is sweet and has a good aftertaste. It's not as powerful as the 2020 version, but it tastes more pure and lighter.
Conclusion: This year's red Da Yeh's strong point are its bright and fine scents, while the 2020 top red strong suit is its aftertaste.
