2018 Summer Oriental Beauty Tradition from Hsin Chu
The taste of Tradition
Cultivar: Qingxin Dapang
Harvested by hand: June 2018
Origin: Hsin Chu, Taiwan
Process: Jassid bitten buds, medium to high oxidation, striped and roasted for a long time at a low temperature.
The leaves are a mix of small, large leaves and buds. The orange brew has a very good clarity and transparency. The leaves are part green, part red, reflecting a medium to high oxidation level.
The dry leaves smell like a mix of wood, roasted bread, ripe fruit and honey! During the brewing, under the lid, I had some beer scents! The tea itself has the typical honey scent of Oriental Beauty in a very refined and subtle way.
The brew tastes very mellow, clean and with a long and pleasant aftertaste. The scents and taste are well balanced. It's not overpowered by one or the other.
Conclusion: This 2018 batch has had over half a year to mature and it already tastes very mellow and delicious. This traditionnally roasted Oriental Beauty Oolong is going to improve even more in the next years, but it can already be enjoyed now.
