2022 Spring 'Subtropical Forest' Baozhong
Cultivar: Tsui Yu (Jade) Oolong, (翠玉), TTES No 13
Harvested by hand: April 10th, 2022
Origin: Pinglin, Wenshan region.
Process: Lightly oxidized Baozhong, twisted, no stems, well dried.
The dry leaves are dark green. The open leaves are quite dark green also, having received plenty of sunlight. They show some oxidation signs on the edges. The brew has a green/yellow hue with a good shine.
The dry scents have some light scents of wood and forest with its various green plants. The brew has high notes of flowers that mingle with deep subtropical forest fragrances.
The taste is amazingly sweet and even soft. It's the sweetest Baozhong of spring 2022! And it comes with a nice and long aftertaste.
Conclusion: The Tsui Yu (jade) cultivar is a great match to produce Subtropical Forest Baozhong! It brings a lot of natural green plants fragrances and the traditional process has turned it into a most typical Wenshan Baozhong.
Brewing tip: Baozhong with very light oxidation isn't well suited for long brews, because it can turn bitter if you're using a lot of leaves. So, this year, I recommend to brew this Baozhong in rather short steeps (in the beginning).
